has anyone managed to do it themselves, that is polish the frame to a mirror finish..see i started doing it with the heel gaurds and they came up great with a buffer and metal polish, but the frame with its not so smooth surface that needs sanding down to get it smooth and then polished up with the metal polish..

its killing me the time its taking as prob i have managed a 10x 5 cm area in 4-5hrs just with a hammer drill, buffer polish attachment and off i go, then finish off with calico buff for a mirror finish.hours later

was thinking maybe use a sander first off to get the metal/aluminium down to a smoother metal before buffing out...or is there someone with in house secrets, a special polish/liquid for cutting down the dull aluminium quicker

If I'm not mistaken, the frame is anodised so you'll need something like Mr Muscle Over Cleaner to help break that down first. The best finish will be by using sand paper rather than a mop. To be honest though, polished frames were so 2/3 years ago, satin black is the way forward.

the best advise would be dont do it but as you have started I would use wet and dry to get down to the ally then polish from there.

Ha ha ha, oh my God! I almost didn't do it, I almost didn't do it! I thought, is this in bad taste? But you know what, I went for it. I went for it and I'm so glad I did! Ooooh, worth it, totally worth it.

You do realise that this is not a once job? You will have to spend time polishing it again and again or else the finish will deteriorate in our British weather and salty roads and look crap eventually.

Bit of luck he lives in Aus then.....

If you want something that looks polished without the hassel, try looking for chromax powercoating... http://www.aerocoat.net/Aeromaxtm.htm bottom of page is a single sided swinger.... I'm tempted

I've lacquered aluminium before, gives kind of a plasticy finish. Not as nice as bare ally.

is fairly good, I did my forks with it after stripping and cleaning, although I didn't go mad with the finish on them in the first place.

So have you tried this yourself or know some one that has?? as im not looking to do the whole frame, just the bottom part next to the heel gaurds, where it is most dull..as given i had started i would just leave it there..but a bit scared to try the Mr Muscle if it makes it worse then i could be in for more of a headache..so anyone with experience with this or just use the wet/dry sandpaper and then polish from there???

cheers

I polished a few things using this technique. Here's a few pics from the resuts. These were not the finished articles as I did that by hand.
