I thought maybe its the plugs,so i replaced them but although the bike starts nicer its still there. so now could do with some help !ian.... |

the bike is a 94 nc 30 with a scorpion race can and standard pipework. the can has been on the bike for quite some time with standard airbox and if any thing seemed to run a bit rich as it never needed more than 10mm of choke lever movment before it bogged down however this morning(after new plugs and with airfilter/box mod) full choke and it started and ticked over well, i need to add the stutter is NOT always there just sometimes! most noticable when i roll on at high rpm 11000 up in most gears but not if i nail it in 1st,2nd 3rd all the way to the limeter without hesitation. Ive just pulled a plug and taken a few pics! colour dosnt look to bad! its just strange that the stutter isnt there constantly, what i would expect if it was the jets, but i dont know . its just a mare!

clean carbs first its not that hard check float heights too! If that dont work id be thinking plug leads, mine had an intermittant stutter and it was a lead breaking down |

hi cheers for replies! wills123 think you maybe onto something as it does feel spark orientated which is why i replaced the plugs! more i think about it ,for the last couple of weeks starting from cold it seemed as as though it was only running on the back two cylinders and then after 30sec or so the front two would kick in!again i put it down to plugs braking down so it does make sense lead not plugs! b****rd things cost me a fortune! |

It wil be running lean as mate and breaking down. You need to jet it.
The jets won't be able to supply fuel at high loads, which is why you only get the symptoms in higher gears.
The plugs won't tell you much unless you do a plug chop when you feel the symptoms.

hi im going to go down the ht route first as i had the starting problem first before airfilter and box were modded as somtimes the only way to keep the motor running [if it hadnt been started for awhile]was to keep it spinning on the startermotor until it kicked in with the front two cylinders!not good so ive had a ht problem for a while but put it down to plugs. so it does make sense that if it shows as a problem in the strain of a cold start it could possibly show at high rpm intermitantly as lead/s breakdown and cause stutter ,i also noticed left front lead has none standard ngk cap screwed on so new leads first and if stutter is still there ill pull the carbs and see what mains are in there !cheers all |

what was the air box mod you did? did it involve cutting the front of the airbox tray? |
