Any body know what may be wrong here, took the cb1 400 out for a spin , ticks over 1200 rpm no problem , bike revs fine but the rev counter just reads silly high figures at 80mph she was reading 14,000 rpm in top gear ??

Dunno about CB400's, but when this has happened on my vfr400 it has either been a dodgy earth to the frame (check them and tighten them), or charging (rec/rect) issues.
