Someone clever (and a bit odd in the head) has grafted Super Four engine, forks and brakes onto an old CB400 Four. It even has the CB400/4 four into two into four exhaust on it!

Interesting, if retro styling is your bag, it's not bad. I'd stick with the SF though.

I saw a few of these when I was in Hiroshima and they look absolutely superb in the flesh. It's an NC36 I think. The pipes are chromed steel and tend to rust through which is a shame as putting a 4-1 on it spoils the look of the bike. I'd hate to think how much the pipes cost new.

A lot of the home market bikes are let down by poor finish on the chrome. Some of the forks I've seen are terrible, like on the FZR250.What are SF forks like? Any problems with premature pitting

This is a 1997 CB400 Four NC36 and it is a very rare bike to see over here. I have the bike and it is lovely to ride. The gearing is a bit different from the old 92-95 SF and they reworked the engine and carbs too, so it is not just a cosmetically different bike. The bike on ebay looked in a very good condition. Well worth the asking price if not more. You're right about the bike being prone to rust if ridden in the English climate. Mine had corrosion everywhere, not just the chrome, also the alu hubs, the engine casing and the frame.

Here are some photos that I took in Singapore last Saturday night on a CB400 "Fours" meet: http://www.pbase.com/hiddemans/singapore_fours

Cheers, Mansie

Hi there,

I did a bit of research on this and my neighbour actually bought it.
This is the CB400 N36 variant and is a very rare bike modelled off the CB750 of the late 60s.

Cannot believe that it sold for only 1500 with 8000 on the clock.
As I've seen the bike it was worth it...

Hi,
I try to bring together other owners of this bike. So far I've seen only three in this country, two in Germany and one in Greece so go figure. If your neighbour wants to contact me please PM me.

It looked like near mint condition from the photos. Certainly a very good deal. I just didn't expect this bike to come up on ebay otherwise I might have been tempted...

Cheers, Mansie

If you mean the guy on the RHS, looks like he's a ghost. His right leg is transparent!

They call him the Ghost Rider. Died in an mysterious accident two years ago but he still comes to nightly rideouts on his old four. He doesn't overtake any more, he rides straight through the cars (so I'm told). Ghost rider is a bit mmm, how to say.... 'thin', if you know what I mean, so I used a long exposure to capture him on the camera.
Cheers, Mansie
