45? I would have been pretty upset with that. The cb-1 is meant to make a few more hosepower than the SF as with the gear cam train it revs higher, and the carbs are "proper" downdraft ones.

The restrictor is not a power restriction as such, it restricts top speed. When you get to 112mph, it cuts the sparks on two cylinders. Up to that point you are getting full power which is anything between 40 and 60 bhp according to how optimistic the dyno is.

If you really want to go more than 112mph, do a search for "restriction resistor". You should find some useful info.

ok I've done a bit of research, and I have concluded;

I cannot find anything about restriction for the cb400sf.
but, i have found it for other 400 jap honda's.

Essentially you bend the tab away from the cam in the speedometer, so it cannot make a circuit back to the cdi unit.

However some people say their is a resistor joining the two wires already? essentially already joining the two wires in the circuit?
maybe the cdi can measure the resistance of the circuit when not connected as it will give a weak reading, then when the cam and tab are connected it would have less resistance!

some people say to fit another resistor of 2.2 K ohms into the circuit, and if i am right about the cdi having a ohm-meter it would prevent the current flow and would have a high ammount of resistance!

however if done incorrectly like cutting the wire it will misfire at 5500 RPM. - this im not sure about.

they ARE restricted!

hey everyone with a CB400 they are restricted, they CAN go faster.

how to do it,
get a mph converter - this will cure it instantly.
or much cheaper, i need to find out from the guys on the cbr400rr bit yet, what wires to solder together with a resistor. and unplug the block on the back of the speedo.

some ppl like style over speed :)
anyway keeping a 400 up around the 90-100 mark is bloody hard work and is missing the point slightly.

They are restricted to 180Kph, a simple resistor in the back of the speedo cuts it out. Do a search and eventually you will find a thread about this.... however, chances of getting the SF over the 180Kph mark may take a long runway!

Good times!
