the plug leads go from left to right 1243 as numbered on the leads and the timeing when its at top dead center the cams marks face each other.but it still wont fire ive taken the sparkplugs out and checked to see if these a spsrk there is on each one. |

I dont recall accurately but from memory (check the manual) the marks should be away from each other. I may be wrong but that would obviously give you the wrong cam timing and possibly low compression. CHECK THE MANUAL !!!! :) |

ive tryed it the other way round as well with the cam marks facing away from each other. and still it wont start. if any body near derby is willing to have a look and point me in the right direction. will to pay. i dont want to take it to the motor bike show and be ripped off. |

the manual does indeed say marks facing away form each other.
does it spin over really quick? have you got a compression tester? |
zxr400 L4 import, micron race system, #105 main jets, k&n filter, rsd crash mushrooms etc etc |

changed the cams so they are facing away from each other as the manual and the timing marks at top dead center as it says in the book.and it still wont start my mate seams to think it could be the head and the cams shims need to be reground because ive put a new head gasket on my cam shims are 2.5mm on the inlet and 3mm om the exhaust. as it is leaving the exhaust open how true is this. |

check the valve clearences then, the values needed are in the manual.
do you have a compression tester and does it turn over very quick? |

cam sprocket marks should face away from each other
spark plugs are 2 and 3 from one coil, 1 and 4 from the other, make sure your plugs are good, they foul easily and will spark outsid the engine but not in. |
sooo.. who wants to lend me 6k then ? |

put the cams in so they are facing away from each other.made sure the coils are the right way round. but it still wont start all it does is back fire out off barrels 3+4 throught the carbs. this weekend i will do a compression test on all the barrels.so i will let you all know the results |

timing is slightly out by the sounds of that or swap plug leads round but it shouldnt fire back through inlets |

it was the valves i took the engine out of the bike and did another compression test. changed them around so that ive got the right clearance on each valve. so i must say a big thank you to all who replyed. |
