there are no bearings in ur front forks there are bushes and headbearings that sit under the top yke and on top of the bottom yoke try and determine which are gone before u go ordering bits. if its the head bearings u will hear and or feel a knocking under the top yoke or above the bottom yoke when u rock the bike foward and back on the front brake. if its bushes u should be able to feel it by the fork seals when rocking the bike |

oh and remember the disc is like a foating jobby (think its for when it expands during heavy use) that can make a knocking sound when moveing foward or back and applying the brake |

Cheers, got a 3rd opinion and there really wasn't a problem, apart from people over-reacting to something they knew jack s@%t about.... Frogy

yer ditto of gsxr400, only bearings I know of are head bearings, I mean come on, common sense why would ya need bearings in the forks, I had to check cos I donno I got older model gsxr's, thought maybe might have been something weirder on newer ones but apparently not :) |

It was the head bearings they were on about about but there was nothing actually wrong with them! They were trying to get me to hear some non-existant knocking...aparently normal if they are loose?
Hey Furballirc, I am no mechanic, therefore I do not have the knowledge that some of you with much greater experience with bikes might. I like to think I can trust bike shops and garages, prehaps not....thats why I asked the forum in the first place! Anyway all sorted now.
Cheers |

u can get ur gixxer to knock by rocking it backwards and fowards but its the disc moving on the carrier i had hours of fun working out wee it was coming from, i was told as the discs heat up through use it stops and re apppears when u next pull it out of the garage |

Not all garages are bad, but really on this type of bike you need to get cluded up cos ya find most places will know less than you about em :) |
