Hi there,
I plan on switching to braided brake hoses (just the front ones to begin with), since my current rubber ones are nearing retirement age and don't seem to give the feel they used to do, or at least don't give the feel I'd like them to give.

Anyone has any information on other bikes that share the brake hose setup with the superfour?
Ofcourse I can have them custom made, but ordering on the internet might be a cheaper option if only I knew which particular kit would fit.

Thanks
Jindrich

I've got allegri cesare stainless hoses http://www.allegricesare.it/catalogo.htm they use a screw on end fitting (instead of a Crimp type like most others) so they are not model specific - just buy the correct length and correct end fitting and assemble. They are also used on ducati WSBK bikes

Hi Jindrich.
Below is a reply I got from Goodridge about braided brake hoses:

"
The kit we produce for the CB1 (Super 400) 92-96 is:

HN0407-2F Front
HN0407-1R Rear
"
Goodridge don't have direct sales so you have to order them from a dealer, Wemoto do them.

Alternatively,
www.h-e-l.co.uk do kits for later model Superfours, I think from 1998 onwards.

Thanks for the input guys

The Goodridge kit seems to be quite expensive, at least with a local dealer I asked about it, but I'll see around a bit.

The screw-type fitting looks promissing, but I heard rumours they would not pass the (soon to come in my country for motorcycles) annual vehicle safety tests, but I asked for an official statement and am still waiting for a reply. Not much point in saving a bit of money buying these and having to buy other ones in one or 2 years time...

Just to add my 2p to the topic ; I put on a set of the Goodridge hoses the other weekend. They weren't cheap at about a ton IIRC, but they were straight forward to fit and you can really tell the difference in feel. FYI I bought mine over the counter at Bike Torque Racing (www.biketorqueracing.co.uk) who happen to be just around the corner from my place. Support your local parts-pushers! I fitted a set of speed-bleeders at the same time which are rather handy too...

Earls were £70 when I bought mine, and they already list a kit as they took mine and measured it up.

Hi PFC,
I asked for stainless hoses. So I'm hoping they are stainless then.
Haven't got them yet, grr, will get on the phone tomorrow.

Tosh.

Gosh, you all seem to be paying a lot for braided hoses. I bought some for the Super Four a few years ago from M and P, and I seem to remember they were around £15 each. You tell them its for a Super four and they make them to the right length.

The Goodridges arrived in the post yesterday (They thought I was picking them up in the shop).
Pretty much £100 and not £85 for a full set. They look nice tho'. :|

Guys,
They shouldn't be that much dosh. I can only assume you have all copied the original set-up of the standard hoses, hence needing more bolts etc. Personally, I just run 2 hoses from the master cylinder direct to the calipers.

Kwakman, don't take offence, but you sure you're in the right forum?

I suppose this topic is as relevant as ever...

Saw the Goodridge set on fleabay item number 160152275456:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Goodridge-Braided-Hoses-Kit-Honda-Hornet-600-900_W0QQitemZ160152275456QQihZ006QQcategoryZ9946QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Two lines going directly from the callipers. The lot for £39.95 seems like a good deal no? Length-wise it shouldn't vary too much between the Hornet and the CB400 (same manufacturer, similar parts in their bikes etc.)?

Cheers, Mansie

I don't know how interchangeable the kits for a Hornet and a Superfour are, there are just 2 things I notice in that ebay auction:
First, the picture shows 2 brake lines with a 90 degree banjo bolt, while there is no such angle on my OEM or HEL brake lines. It could be just a generic picture, but it's something you'll have to check before you buy.
Second, the banjo bolts in this kit are zinc plated mild steel, not stainless steel. Zinced bolts are somewhat corrosion resistant, but stainless is a lot better.

If your still looking, there's a guy on eBay UK name of "ferrymckenzie", he does Hel lines at very reasonable prices. You can have any colour you like and they come complete with stainless fittings. All you have to do is give him the details, ie, length, angle etc. I got a set of the new white lines and was very impressed with the service and price.
