Any body know what may be wrong here, took the cb1 400 out for a spin , ticks over 1200 rpm no problem , bike revs fine but the rev counter just reads silly high figures at 80mph she was reading 14,000 rpm in top gear ??
Thanks eddie |

clutch slipping? or the sprocket to speedo cable drive spinning on its shaft meaning that speedo runs slow, the rev counter is electric and senses through (i belive) the cdi/ignition system so if its playing up it could be a nightmare to sort out.
Does the bike sound like its running as high as the rev counter says? If no then maybe the rev counter is getting wrong signal, or mechanical fault inside the rev counter. |

hi flat out the bike is doing 120 mph indicated in top gear, and reading something like 19,000 rpm if the gauge read that high lol , she ticks over at 1200 rpm , just seems to over read high up the rev range ?, any idea what the mechanical fault may be ? , spring ?

If the spring gets rusty it can weaken and cause high readings. Not had this on my CB-1 but had a couple of old sheds of bikes this has happened to in the past. Breakers job or ignore it are the cheapest options. There are places that specialise in speedo/rev counter repairs - hopefully someone will have some info. |
