time flys, soon be summer :0)
quick history have owned the NC29 for 5yrs, ride all yr round/winter nights/mornings. Have already tried several "normal" H4 bulbs over the years. Xenon ultra bights, blue tint, expensive bulbs...none had any impact and were crap. 3yrs ago i fitted 100/80W x2 bulbs. melted my switch gear twice! had the full relay/fuses/re-wiring mods done so can cope with high wattage bulbs. all mods have been left in place in case i need to re-fit standard bulbs. last resort was the Hi/Lo (dip/main) HID kit. i have been watching these for the last 3yrs waiting to see who well they developed as a product, expensive but worth it.
its been just over a month since i had the HID ballast kit fitted to my NC29. i haven't had time to re-route the wiring, so haven't had time to get the headlight aim checked. as i had not changed the headlight unit adjuster bolts i figured they should pretty much be aimed ok but is on my list to have checked. in the 1st 2 weeks i had 2-3 cars flash at me, haven't had any this week. quick flash back tells them i am already on dip. but then if i thought someone's lights were bright id flash at them and i know mine are bright. The kit has boosted the light and i find it so much better to see the cats eyes further down the road than i ever used to and white lines at night even with oncoming cars. before i struggled to see anything! it seems that cars wait in junctions for me to pass than pull out like many used to in the usual places, local truck stop was bad for that! being seen is always a massive benefit/saves my life. when the day light draws out i will be re-fitting my yellow headlight covers back on. this will defuse the bright light a little + something i have always had on my bike to make me stand out in traffic.
benefits? see better-out weighs most downfalls. reduced load on alternator/reg/rec ballasts do not get hot or even warm so can cover them. normal bulb fitting
downfalls? the cost £200 in all for the kit and labour getting it fitted professionally (for the warranty). 7/10 times when i 1st switch them on, one bulb turns its self off. have to off/on and it works fine. location of ballasts, they are a bit of an eye sore. currently sit RHS of the dash. i am looking at a cover of sorts. |
