Hi all,

Last year when i finished uni i promised myself two things....

1, Get a Bike

2, get it on the road in time to take it to the Moto Gp at Donnington in the summer.

got the bike and its on the road so just the donnington bit to sort out so after some advice.

do any of you go to the GP/WSB etc?
Is it worth riding there or going in the car? im about 45 mins from the track so really want to take the bike but if its not a good idea then ill take the car, there will be a few of us going on bikes.
Is there any issue with bike safety there....do all your shinny bits go missing as soon as you leave the bike?
would you recomend going for the full weekend, day of champions, practice, qualifying and race day or just go for warm up and race day?
are the police all over you because you are riding a bike? I am far from a stupid rider and have never been pulled over or have anything illegal on the bike but i dont fancy the hassle
oh and tickets....do they sell out therefore need to book them early (possibly cheaper to) or shall i just get them on the day?

Thanks

If at all possible. bike every time. Saves you hours of waiting in traffic queues. Only been in the car once and not something I relished!

every year i have been with a crowd on a minibus. a complete pain in the ass getting out of the place. hours upon hours to get out. on a bike you will spend more time trying to find it in the bike parking than you will spend driving out of the place

On the lookout for a cheap VFR400. Cosmetically, dont really care, must be mechanically sound. Must get me home :)

WHAT!!!!

Practice and Qualifying are great and there are sooooo fewer people there you can have a good mooch around the shops blah blah..mate you are only 45 mins away (I am 1/2 an hour) its so worth poping up on the Friday to get the feel of things...then on the saturday for the shops and Qualifying then Sunday for huge crowds and rain LOL...

DOC is ok once...

Ha ha ha, oh my God! I almost didn't do it, I almost didn't do it! I thought, is this in bad taste? But you know what, I went for it. I went for it and I'm so glad I did! Ooooh, worth it, totally worth it.

The Day of Champions is by far the best day out on the whole weekend. If you spectate at Donnington you are some distance from the action and behind a chain-link fence so you are better off staying at home and watching Suzy Perry on BBC2.

Go for the whole weekend. Practice & Qualifying are great fun to watch. But for some reason they dont put the big screens up till race day.

Plus if you go for practice you get a good chance to go round the shops. Also with practice days you get a chance to get up close to the action which can be difficult on race day. Going for practice allows you to work out where you want to watch the race from.

I missed the day of champions last year and have regretted it ever since. Will be going to the DOC this year.

I would drive (if you plan to camp), means that you can take more food/drink and equiptment making it more comfortable - especially when it rains.

nah defo not staying at home...even for suzy perry! been to the day of champions when i was younger and thought it was ace because there is a good chance to see/meet the riders, (got doohans autograph amongst others)and i would love to meet rossi! not fussed about practice and qualifying tho so recon i will just do the race day and ride in

Been to watch club races there a few times and i thought craner curves and the dunlop straight were the best spots apart from the melbourne harpin but to watch there you either have to have one of those boxes or be in the pits....neither of which is likely for me at a GP!

As for crashing at mine...would be cool but its my rents house and where my bike is, im renting in newcastle at the moment so not so convenitent lol

would be cool for those of us going from 400gb to meet somewhere and ride in togeter en mass

I totally agree on that comment. We've been to the D.o.C twice now and planning to go again this year. You get to go round the paddock and pit lane and meet all the riders. Its great fun and definitely worth doing at least once.
I always go in the car for the following reasons:
1) Can't take all my gear with me otherwise.
2) Its far comfier
3) You will find that you walk an awfully long way and in bike boots and leathers it really isnt fun. I've done it!
4) If its hot you sweat like a pig
5) if its cold you freeze to death.
6) I have found the perfect parking place so no worrying about traffic

I'm definitey pre-ordering my tickets again. My brother and I have been every year since 99 and never miss it.

I managed to get some photos of Valentino last year, but you really do have to know what place to be in at what time.... he is very fly-by-night! lol. Most of the other riders mill about during the day. I think the only one we havent met yet is Dani Pedrobot.
