hi, im having some trouble with an exhaust leak on my nc30. it is leaking badly from the join between the front two downpipes and the rest of the system. it previously had exhaust paste bodging it, but now i have got the proper honda clamps (30 quids worth!) and they do absolutley sod all. i have taken the down pipes off the head and out of the join and seen that to connect at the head, the pipe wont go all the way to the back of the collar section where the clamp should go, causing a leak. any ideas?
closer inspection of the haynes manual has confused me even more, it looks as though there should be a sleeve under the clamps and over the join which would make sense... although i dont have these. what has everyone else got? cheers
Did you put a new gasket in when you replaced the clamps. It looks like that may be missing judging by how far you've managed to push the front pipes in - they shouldn't go in that far.
looks like you need the proper gaskets..or even better, have a local welding shop put some fresh sleeves on those pipes for you. clamps will only help if you have sealed it.
you need honda ref 18391-310-000 (packing muffler)
ths is a cylindrical gasket to seal the joints..then get clamping it up!
excellent! thats exactly what i was after thanks. so this packing muffler is a gasket that wraps around the join, and then the clamps go over it? i dont know why it should look as though the pipes are too far in as this is how far it needed to be to line up with the head. the stand side takes A LOT more effort to get in enough too.
I just bought some of these... $25 AU each. they were labelled as "18391-MN5-650" which is exactly the same part. so if one part number merely gets you a blank look, try the other
