this morning my bike started on 2 or 3 cylinders so i let it warm up and sure enough they all stated to fire, but now when i start it up there is a really loud ticking noise on the right hand side that dies down after a few seconds, so you can only just about hear it, now it has ticked for a while (had posted previous topic) i was just wondering what could be up and where i could get the parts needed to fix it |

i will continue to let it warm up before use |

guessing its a tappet that is slightly slack and it makes quite a bit of noise until the oil reaches it |

Could be an exhaust gasket? |

sounds like it is low on oil. With the bike on its side stand the oil slips to the left hand side of the engine. It takes a few seconds for the oil to pump around to the dryer parts. You could check the oil and top it up before you get the new filter etc, just to see you through. I wouldn't worry about the prospects of it doing any damage, these engines are pretty robust. |

Hearing the "ticking" noise at initial startup is OK. If the ticking noise doesnt disappear after more than 3-5 seconds, then its something else. More often than not, primary reason for the ticking sound is when the oil is still all the way down the pan. Thats when the oilpump is briging it all back up to circulate. As long as the noise is gone after a few clicks is nothing to worry about in my books... |

Right just to let you lot know, a service fixed this, there is now no ticking noise to be heard at all
changed both filters, and put in 5w/40 synthetic oil, also changed the exhaust to a standard one so my old one is up for grabs email me for more info if you are interested :D |

Sounds like it was prob the exhaust change that made it go away.....perhaps the old one blowing at the manifold....i had a loose exhaust stud on my S4 thats made the bike tick tick tick all the time until i tightened it. Seeby |
