Hope someone can make a suggestion. The day before I was due to take my bike away on hols, my battery decided to give up. I replaced it and completed 1000 happy miles around Scotland. I then left it untouched for about 3 weeks and ...no joy. It was turning over so battery seems ok - just dead now because I've tried it so much. Checked all the daft stuff - petrol in and on etc. Thought I might have flooded it, but wouldnt it have dried out now 3 days later? Plugs and filter were changed about 8k ago but not way overdue. Seems a bit strange it's gone from great tourer to dust gatherer in 3 weeks. It's stood for longer than that in the past and been fine! Thanks, Rob
Have you tried jump/bump starting it, or do you know anyone with an optimate or similar charger? Check the battery and all connections all over the bike are clean, might be a dirty or corroded connection. Also might be that the regulator rectifier has gone and fried the battery...
Whip the plugs out and give them a warm with a lighter. Also turn the engine over with the plugs out. My SF flooded once and I couldn't believe how much juice came out of the pots. Don't put the plugs back into the caps when you do this for obvious reasons. I have had success with this method in the past with various bikes (including my SF). Sounds like your reg/rec is ok if you have done a 1000 mile trip on it with the new battery. Also worth a try is pull the fuel tap suction pipe off the left hand rear of the head and give it a suck. The valve can stick behind the diaphragm cutting off the fuel supply. Don't worry you wont get any petrol in your mouth. Try this first before you do anything else cos it only takes a couple of minutes. I am assuming the bike is a Super four?? good luck
