Well ive just left a mates house after spending an hour in her dads garage looking at his RD250. All immaculate and original. Verrry nice bike! :)
I didnt leave until midnight and yes, it was *Censored*g cold. I had to wipe the frost off my viffer before I rode it. lol
I set off, kept the revs super low until I was out of her area as a, VERY loud pipe b, Engine was still cold
Once I made it to the main road, engine temp was reasonable, So i raised to about 8k gear changes. Hit the link road and I gave it some beans, And the bike was pulling my arms out of their sockets so to speak. Front wheel was skimming on gear changes. VERY fierce!
Pulled from the lights, Gave it a wiff of clutch and the front raised gracefully from around 5k rpm (Has NEVER lifted under 10k before)
I was very impressed.
Will dynoing help the bike run like this all the time do you think? Could it be that the new can is causing it to run lean/rich on a normal day. But with the icey cold/dense air tonight it was aiding the bike to run better. lean/rich?
I came home with a grin on my face either way! |

cold air, denser air , more oxygen
you will find that your bike is running rich
when it was cold and there was extra oxygen then it was getting to the right ratio |

All engines run better with cold air as Johnnie states, think about a cars air filter and where it is, i.e on top of the engine. Now think about the cold air induction kits you can buy that suck air from the front of the car instead of inside the engine bay. MORE POWER !!!! Some bikes have it fitted as standard called Ram Air Induction. Intercoolers do the same thing.

I know what ram air is etc. But I really didnt believe it made that much difference. Which is why ive a feeling the bikes running like a sack of sh1t on a normal run. And good in the cold. |
