A Couple of pictures of the new front Titanium Axle. Saved a little weight 240 grams or about 56 grams less than stock I believe.

Wow that is gorgeous! I am a sucker for two things... titanium, tits and carbon. Ok, well that is three (or is it four!) things.
How can I get my hands on one?

Really nice!
How come that it was only 56 g lighter? Is it thicker than standard?
Titanium is 40% lighter than steel so my maths doesn´t work out!

Kay, if you want to use titanium on things like axles you have to overengineer it, or it
will shatter from inside out. Motogp teams xray their axles after x-number races, because theirs are made to very close tolerances.

It wasn't hollow all the way through but a machinist (son of a neighbor) completed the work. When I bought it off of ebay it was heavier than stock and as cyclenut says not drilled all the way through. I bought it and the machinist finished the work.

I bought it from the same guy who makes the titanium shift rod levers Underboat (Paul Thomas). He perhaps could have taken off some more material but I didn't give him the stock one to compare. I just had him hollow it out to the same simensions as it had been started with by Paul.

Had this picture saved for a while, not too sure where the picture came from but I would guess it was off here somewhere.

I would imagine you could get one machined from Ti but I hate to think of the cost.

What was that rule again. For every 1 LB you chop on unsprung weight it feels like 8 LBS? Something like that. Th rear axle by itself weight around 1700 grams so with TI you would loose about 680 grams of unsprung weight or 1.5 LBS of unsprung weight. This would be similar to dropping about 12 LBS of sprung weight.

I need to lose 40 lbs of "sprung weight"... then maybe my leathers would fit better!
