Hi.

New to the forum... but have had the itch for a Honda VFR/RVF 400 for 20 years! The time has come to scratch it!

I'm currently riding a 2001 Fireblade RR-Y (929) - but have promised the missus that I'll bring my biking days to and end soon. Tis a long (and largely irrelevant) story as to why... but I'm selling up within a year.

So... before I quit (for now ) I want a squeaky clean V4 for this summer. My Blade's gonna sell for over £3k, so I'm prepared to spend close to that value (ideally £2-£2.5k so I have a bit left over). I'm in N.Ireland, but would be prepared to buy from Scotland or North England.

Are there any specialist dealers that would have a clean bike? I've been looking at Autotrader and found a clinker in a dealers in Newcastle but twould seem I'm too late (NC35, standard, 11k miles, £2600).

I'm thinking NC35 mostly because they're newer and I do like those trick front forks! But in saying that, a nice NC30 would do me well. So long as its fairly standard, and has low miles and is in tip top condition.

(sorry if this is a host of daft newbie questions that you guys have to endure every month.. I've tried this past 2 days to do a forum search but it wont respond )

Hi Johnny, welcome aboard.
there is a few guys from N.Ire on the forum.
nice clean rvf's do come abut over here, but no that often. it is possible to pick up a clean nc30 too.
keep searching and you shoudl be fine. Autotrader is ok, but use things like gumtree, ads for free, buy and sell, i also seen a real nice one on ebay a while ago.had a fortuna paint scheme.
good luck, maybe see ya out and about!

Lintons in ballymena have a couple on there site, probably overpriced from past experience but worth a look. They have a nice rvf with white wheels, looks like my old 1.

The VFR seems low miled - although I'm assuming 10,300kmh is a typo unless they've replaced the motor with a rocket

Must give them a ring and enquire about prices... I'll report back. Anyone want a nice Fireblade?

John

[edit] Both sold - but he has another 2 sat there. Theres a RVF for £3k (which has had new fairings & paint) - big money for a crashed bike IMO. Also, he has a VFR in 'special colours' which means 'dropped' to me! It'll be £2200 but no info on mileage. They'll be on his website in a few days....

Welcome along Johnny. Sorry to be the bringer of bad news, but they have all more than likely been dropped. Good luck with the search, but you might find it hard getting a mint one over here as between 5 of us we have 11 VFR/RVF's in road and track/race form. We hold the monopoly LOL

So which one of you 5 wants a cash injection for your track days then?

Theres a red VFR on autotrader in NI - £1800ono, 33k miles (I assume its miles). Looks clean... but I'd been sort of set on the multi coloured version.

The last one I looked at (NC30, £1500ono), I drove 60 miles down to Fermanagh. Described as "excellent condition" and in the teeny tiny autotrader pic it looked fine indeed. Got there to find that the pratt had kept it 'out the back' all winter, uncovered. It had rust streaks all over it. Rear tyre which was described over the phone as 'probably needs changing' was in fact squared off! It'd been subject to burn-outs or else serious, serious neglect. Took 30 secs before I ran away! Didnt even let him start it.

Still - I really need to sell my 929 first - so will get it in the autotrader ASAP. Its a cracking bike - but most of my riding is B road blasts. I have a 2 year old in the house, so my 'spare time' comes in 30 minute bursts! I suspect that the NC's will be good fun for that sort of back road fun... I'm right, aren't I?

Thanks for the help thus far...

Johnny

While I remember... do any of you guys (from NI) go to the Waringstown Cavalvade in June? Somebody has a GORGEOUS NC35 who goes this past 2 years. They park it in the church car park up the Mill Hill. I was tempted to stick a note on it last year with my tel no. BUT... in that condition, I couldnt imagine why the owner would part with it.

Do any of you own it?...

the red one on autotrader:

used to belong to friend of mine (if not his then an exact copy)
originally came from Geoff Kernoghans

Actually... thats quite a nice colour scheme. 1 thing I notice different - the one in Autotrader doesnt have a braided line to the front brake. Asides from that - its identical.

You could perhaps help me with the mileage thing. Maybe its a NI thing - but anyone I know seems to think that once a bike passes 10k its ready for the scrapper. A friend has a 98 R1 with 3500 miles on it! Previous owner kept it in the living room for the past 4 years (I'm not joking )

I've therefore had it in my head that I should only seek out a bike with, say, 10-15k miles on it. This one has 33k. I dont want any bills with the bike. I want to buy it and have NO problems. What mileage becomes a problem with these 400s?

You wont regret buying an NC, will definately suit needs by the sounds of it. Mileage isnt really an issue as such provided its been looked after and the service intervals kept to like any bike. My rvf had over 30k kms on it and besides the usual reg/rec problem and a broken speedo cable, it never missed a beat.

hmm anyone want a gixer 750...? lol

LOL, this one is out of your price range (I'd take many thousands to take this off my hands) but if you have £2-2.5k to spend look for a mint one with genuine panels. If you like, I'd happy go along with you to have a look over the bike.

Appreciate the offer. This one isnt for me (timing wise). Have to get the ££s out of my Blade first ideally.

AOL, our NC35 had 45kKm on it when we got it, its now got 55kKm, only issue (apart from normal consumables) was when the reg/rec died and it ground to a halt on the M42 on our way to a soggy MotoGP at Donington.

My VFR RC24 had 27k on it when I bought it, it's now got 65k, now admittedly I have swapped the engine but the only reason for swapping it was because I had to replace the exhausts and had to remove the engine to do that, in the process had to cut 2 engine bolts and 2 exhaust studs snapped, it was just easier to put in a newer engine than fix those!!

Now that has had slightly more stuff replaced but again the only thing to actually go wrong was the fuel tank as it had sat for 2 years prior to me getting it and the fine rust dust clogged all five fuel filters causing it to run like a dog and then it sprung a leak! Replaced the tank and all was groovy! Get one that has been used regularly and stored properly and you wont have those issues!

Which gixer?
