Who is doing this one? The DP regular 400 riders need some help to stop them being over run by the 250's. Colin Martin flew the flag for the 400's at Brands - just wondered who would do it at Croft?

Looks as if we are going to get two 8 or 9 lap races on each day.

Cant make Croft... will be at Snett with Bemsee, but will be at many other rounds this year, as I love the long race format and a very friendly paddock. Cheers
Colin Martin (#41 DP)(#45 Bemsee)
PS. Loved the scrutineering in the last garage at Brands plus the scrutes walking up and down the garages looking to check bikes there and then .. fantastic.... so much better the pushing a bike the whole way through the tunnel at 7 in the morning..!!! Great club and a great weekend despite the nasty weather.

Bugger - are you coming back Colin

Nah - will be good to race against you. I won't say again 'cos I don't think I actually saw you on the track at Brands - you had already buggered off by the time I was going. Got some good piccies which I will put on a DVD when I find my DVD's

Diesels could do with some help - otherwise they will get their arse's kicked by the ring-a-dings

Unfortunately, it's not bemsee legal

Assuming it's the featured bike, or unless it's changed since the glossy mag article (sorry, can't remember whih mag it was)

Would love to see it in action though

2006 BEMSEE SBK400 CHAMPION.

As I said, the glossy mag article stated it's specification, it stated it's wieght at 133kg I beleive?
Bemsee have a minimum weight limit of 145kg. Nothing to stop wieght being added of course, but rather defeats the object of building such a superb bike, IMO.

I thought bemsee had adopted f400 rules and wasnt aware that there was any weight limit for formula bikes? how do the likes of the Kr's and Rgv's and aprilia's get away with that then? if you could find official verification (not that im doubting your knowledge)could you post it up? Cheers

Found the spec on the bemsee website...there f400 rules are 'as usual' different to all other clubs 415cc... bhp limits on two strokes ect. Could anyone clarify the max engine capacity for a two stroke in the bemsee f400?

Sorry Roger, fazed out then. Bemsee have tried to get their rules more in line with other clubs, particularly after the 'Superbike' 400 rules appeared to put a lot of people off. The 415cc limit I've only just realised was changed, last year it was a 2% allowance. The reason behind that was to allow all bikes to repair the bores, where originally the rules stated 'manufacturers overbores', that gave the FZRs a perceived advantage by allowing +1mm pistons, ZXRs +.5mm pistons and the Hondas nothing.

The weight limit was to stop any expensive wieght saving development and materials. The idear was to stop it becoming class whereby those with deeper pockets were percived to have an advantage.

400cc 2 strokes were allowed in the SBK regs, but their was a 78bhp limit for both. NO 400 4 stroke got near the limit 'on the Dynopro Dyno used at the circuit'. The 2 strokes were having to be 'detuned' to get within the rules. Therefore the limit was dropped for the 4 strokes, again, to try to encourage so called 85bhp 4 strokes (92bhp FZRs )to enter.

In My Opionion, the 2 strokes are still a bone of contention for me. At 132kgs, and with more, yes more, torque than the 4 strokes, and with the potentail to give a wider powerband than the 2 strokes traditionally have, they should be walking it, given equal rider ability, but appear to have been a littile unreliable.

Anyway, I'm waffling now I think.

Anyway, I realised that NG is at Brands, so I think you should do that so that I can come and have a nosey around your bike

I thought F400 rules were simple enough - Bemsee seem to overcomplicate what should be a very simple formula and if anything have made it more expensive.

On weight is it 145kg wet or dry? If wet I only need to add 25kg!!! of lead to the KR if dry then over 30kg of lead.

There has been much discussion on the rules over the last few years.

Bemsee stuck to the SS400 rules whilst most other clubs were F400 rules that allowed more freedom. Bemsee then made the change to SB400, (SuperBike) to make the rules much simpler, basically a bhp limit and minimum wieght limit. The idea was to keep costs down, It was becoming percieved as an 'expensive' class and apparently putting people off, and in theory I understand what they were trying to do. ie, avoid expensive engine tunes and expensive wieght saving modifications and materials. At the same time allowing cheaper options for repairs, such as rebores instead of trying to find a decent set of barrells, different calipers, instead of expensive rebuilds, aftermarket subframes, more easily available forks etc etc.

My thoughts at the time were that people could stick Ohlins forks in, Brembo race calipers, different swinarms, fuel injection etc etc, thus making it even more expensive, as you say. The reality is that no one has really done that, except for one FI zxr.

Prior to that people were saying that bemsee is too fast, expensive with highly tunes bikes, then when the 78bhp limit came in, they were saying their bikes at 80, 85 92 bhp were too powerful. Bemsee couldn't win. We all know the reality, but lets not go there now

So, now almost any bike, built for any club, can race with bemsee, except, unfortunatley, Rogers bike, but that is a very unique I beleive one off bike, and ironicly, what bemsee was trying to avoid (oh, and now bemsee has banned FI, one other bike)

Anyway, you can go round and round in circles trying to design rules to suit everyone. At the end of the day it's about trying to keep the 400 classes alive. I for one think it's a great class.

2 stoke weight limit is 132kgs IIRC. I'm not sure if that's wet or dry, But meausred at the end of a race, and I beleive you're supposed to have 2lt of fuel remaining, so half wet !

2006 BEMSEE SBK400 CHAMPION.
