hey guy's.

Are the CB400 super four restricted too?
mines a 1995 F2S model.

I'm gonna get it on the dyno at college soon, that will be cool, but my mate tells me I can get a derestrictor box, as the jap import bikes are still restricted.

Also i cannot find a workshop manual in english for this bike.
Has anyone translated a japanese one?
Or is their an english copy?

i think that all jap 400's were restricted to 112mph, you can get round it in a number of ways,
solder a resiter into a certain part of the loom off the speedo
fit an MPH converter, as this will prevent the speedo from activating the micro switch in the speedo (i think)
or there is a plug in box avaliable that might be advertised on the 400GB site (down for changes atm).

I could have sworn that haynes do one for the Superfour, they make them for the CBR 400's.

yeah mine goes 112.
except for downhill, or with wind behind me, or farting.
But i've fitted a bigger rear sprocket by 2 teeth.
So it now has a nice accleration, but the top speed hasn't changed.
but it revvs higher per speed throughout the revv range.

If you have fit a bigger rear sprocket, it is seriously unlikely to go over 112mph anyway so I wouldn't worry about it!

at the CDI or ECU , you need too source two wires. First the BROWN/BLUE STRIPED wire cut it. Then a BLACK/WHITE wire you need too remove a small amount of the plastic insulation. Then solder a 2k ohm resistor ( 20p from maplins)fomr the bared BLACK/WHITE wire too the BROWN/BLUE STRIPED wire at the CDI END !!!not he loom side, then away you go

They are restricted to 180kph which can be overcome by a resistor across one of the wires in the back of the speedo. There used to be very good instructions on how to do it in the workshop section on the main page but it is unavailable at the moment. You could search for it in the CBR section but with site modifications going on searches are very limited at the moment.
There is a manual which is translated from Russian and is missing a few words here ad there. Don't know who sells the disc of it but it is quite often on ebay. Unfortunately the file is too big to email.

Good times!

i have derestricted it already.
leapaed pagan sent me a resistor on the wires.
Yes it does go faster.
but because ive gone 2 teeth up on the rear you hardly notice any major improvement.

If you have added two teeth to the rear sprocket you will be improving acceleration but lessening top speed slightly

I know!, but to be honest its a bit strange because,
On the standard sprockets it did 180kmph.
With the 2 teeth up with much better accleration it still did 180kmph.
probably because it was restricted to 180.

Then I fitted the 'resistor MOD' and it did 185km, with 2 teeth up.
I took the 'resistor mod' OUT, still with extra 2 teeth and it did 190km???
Conditions the same, same part of the road.
(i dont know how it went faster without the 'resistor mod', since it never has before but it was so weird, almost like the bike knows i want it to go fast without fettling with it)

Another thing,
It was wierd I was racing my mate on his restricted CBR600, and Suddendly My 400 got a massive kick up the butt at 10,000 revvs in 6th gear, unlike anything i've felt before and just shot forward from 170kmph to 190kmph. (maybe it wanted to stay in front of the cbr, so it found some extra power to pull away)
