Having just done an oil change i foolishly managed to overfill my oil level. i know the min and max are there for a reason but is it damaging to run it with too much oil?
If so what would you say is the best way to get some out? taking the drain plug out may remove too much and i dont have a great deal left to top it up! Wouldnt normally care but im bloody skint at the moment and cant afford to go buying more oil.
so what do you reckon? its a bove the max but below where the flat measure bit turns to a rounded bar should i leave it or try and remove a little bit? |
i have the bike just not the money or the weather to ride the thing! |

First of all, you idiot (only kidding) What bike is it for and how much above the level is it? Could you just not loosen the sump plug off and let the oil seep past the last few threads until it's at the correct level. Do not use the bike until it's below the line, it's there for a reason. |

Excellant jake lol a brilliant solution looks like ill just take the plug out trying to spill as little as poss and possably get a nice clean jug to collect it so i can shove it back in if i take too much out! dont know why i didnt think of such a simple solution before!! still we got a good bit filth out of it lol |

The max level is probably for two reasons:
1) To allow for pressure (when it heats up) 2) So it doesn't seep out all over your bike.
Get a a short bit of clear tubing stick one end in the oil reservoir and blow until bubbles come up. Make sure the bit where your mouth is is BELOW where the end in the oil is then suck until the oil passes over the curve. Gravity will then do the rest and it will keep pouring out the tube! |

I did this last year, put way too much oil in, so I went to B&Q, bought a length of clear plastic tube, and just sucked a load out. thought I had it sorted, then Graeme France came down and was looking at my bike, which still had way too much oil in, and he just leant the bike over and the oil just came out of the hole it went in. sorted.
here is a question about changing oil, is it a given thing that you should change the oil filter every time you change the oil, or could you do an oil and filter change, then do 2 oil changes then on the next one do an oil and filter change? |

You could skip the filter every other time ... but it's not like they're expensive is it ??? Just change the filter with the oil then you sure it's done properly |

its not a case of saving money by not replacing it, if you knew what my maintenance skills are like, you would understand why I would want to eliminate as much as possible anything that I do to the bike myself. |

think of it this way, why put clean oil through a dirty filter? |
