hi all, i am hoping to upgrade my brakes on my zxr400 l race bike and wanted to no what options i have, I heard zx6r calipers worked and also k1 gixxer calipers, i have used pro-lites on my rvf in the past and wanted to know what else i can use as at the moment i would be better of putting my reebok classics on the back tire liked i used to on my bmx! your help would be much apreciated. wayne |

Whats the ones on it Wayne? The k1 gixer ones that where on me bros bike, have been drilled out on the mounting holes, so they can take the bigger bolts( the standard caliper bolts). The pads would overlap the discs a wee bit if you use them on the L model forks and discs. The h model forks take 300 mm discs, and the L, 310mm. So when i put L model discs on the H model forks, used with the gixer calipers its much better contact....but i thought they were a bit naff to be honest..it may of been down to them needing a rebuild, or maybee the master cylinder is not to good. So i rebuilt my standard H ones,(new seals and that,*Censored* expensive mind...) and they where alot better. I reckon those r6/r1 jobbies that dude has got on his are gonna be well nice, they are great brakes. Also the standard discs are sposed to be real good and lighter than the prolites as long as they are in good shape.. |

To be honest you shouldn't have a problem. What pad & master cylinder combo are you using. We have no problem with endurance racing on standard calipers. |

sorry it's taken ages to reply, jake: the brakes that are on the bike are standard calipers and standard discs, but they are really bad, not sure how to service them and have little time. i was wondering will 2003 zx12r 6 pots fit straight on? i dont want to use standard set up as i have a habit off breaking very late and want the best stopping power and feel combo i can get. I use to use ebc pro-lites with bendix pads on my last bike and found them truly brillaint and want that same stopping powere again. |

Not sure on the zx12 dude.....tbh, rebuilding the calipers aint that bad, but if they are fooked ( covered in paint aint they?), you probs right in getting something else. Ive got a spare set of L discs that you can try. Ive read about the fireblade setup being a goodun, think you need to sleeve the bolts as they are thinner on the blades, but aint sure which year blade. I think if you could find a decent set of standard calipers, and some nice fluid/pads, straight discs, they will be not far off good.

zx9 calipers and early 2000 gixxer 600's fit too. A shouldered rotor bolt will work to bolt them on, easy as can be, no drilling or custom bolts. |
