It is a great site, i think the best site about tuning an engine for RVF and VFR 400, but Mike we canīt see the dyno results. They are to small.

Still working on it. I need to load the dyno software to my home machine. Then I can make much better graphs to post. Hang in there, they're coming :-) |

Blog's are supposed to give you that feature, especially if you use an RSS feed. Unfortunately, it's only for the pages I make new entries to. I haven't done any of that yet. I will as we progress, I promise. |

I REALLY like your EFI page. I have to estimate that when you do make 100hp at the rear wheel, you will be on par with or beating top WSB factory teams in terms of HP per cc. I won't put on a skirt and shake pom-poms (trust me you wouldn't want me to), but I'm cheering for you guys.
How much you spend for a set of throttle bodies? And if you don't mind me asking, what is your bore diameter?
Some observations/questions: your EFI module boasts stepper motor control, do you think that you will ever need to add in a set of secondary valves to control air delivery? From the pics I noticed everything was cramped, would a master flapper valve in the air box be an effective way of managing the air flow? |

goinphaster: would you FIND someone to put on a skirt and shake pom-poms that we all would enjoy watching :-)
The TBs were about $1200 USD without the injectors. They weren't bad, excepting that the electronics to run them was another $5000 or so.
They are a tapered bore of 32mm at the manifold boot/port opening up to 40mm at the opening of the velocity stacks. I am curious to see how they work. They flow amazing on the bench, that's for sure.
Stepper motors...working for Ducati, I have a love/hate relationship for stepper motors. I really don't know what we will find we need. EFI is a very new avenue for us to explore on our own. Luckily, we have a good guy working with us on the set-up (he tunes for several of the top AMA teams, as well as LMPT, CART, IRL and CHAMPcar guys). Keep reading and we'll let you know what we find, as we find it. Realistically, we are hopingthe bike will be running by Winter-----pending crank and other goodies. |

Okay I got the Dyno software working and have been placing graphs in the body of each page. Please let me know what you think now.
Note: I did not update the dyno graph photo album |

Hi Mike.
Great stuff, thanks for posting up the 428 info, was wondering if you were going to do that as it is a bit closer to my budget. Pretty impressive Hp improvement in Bobs 428 when fitting your own piston design.
Have you ever had the time and inclination to map the ignition advance curves of NC30 production, NC35 production, NC30 HRC and NC35 HRC CDI control units?
regards jon |

We could use some donor motors. Do you have any junk heaps that are in need of rebore and rebuild? I need cases, transmissions and heads with good valves and rockers. The rest gets replaced really. |

It's funny that you should ask. I had several clear plexiglass "windows" made that screw into the ignition access hole so we can run the motors without an oil bath to do just that. I have an adjustable timing light, but I have always wondered how accurate that was. Before the Mule blew up, that was the very next test we were going to do.
If I supply someone with a "window" does someone want to take the task of doing this as I no longer have the bike to test with? (for now anyway)? |

I've a slightly more accurate way of doing this in mind. By simulating the pulse coil outputs on a micro development system I can then run a series of tests at stepped engine speeds and through various crank accelerations and read back the firing point, just by plugging in the appropriate cdi unit. I'm planning on doing that as soon as I have a definative answer to the pulse coil angle and the tag angles on the starter clutch (which on the 30 I think there are 7 tags, starting at the T2F line and at 45 degree steps clockwise, so two round is at T1F and then they continue until there is a 90 degree gap...), once I know for sure then finding tdc should be relatively simple and from that I can calculate the timing curves... (will be a damned site easier than writing a process control system for an 400 ton aluminium die casting machine....) I'll be doing the 30 first purely because that's what I have... |

nc30andzx9r: are you the one who e-mailed me about this? I have the NC-35 starter clutch drawn up in Solidworks, so I can get you all of these dimensions by the weekend. I will go by my shop tonight and pick up an NC-30 assembly and make the revisions to the model for the -30 this weekend as well. I will get you the dimensions by this weekend (if all goes well). Please e-mail me again (mngforce@speakeasy.net) and I will send you the prints. I'll take photos as well.
This will be very helpful for my project as well as the rest of the 400GB'ers. |

Elrod (Gen 5.1Ti)has the MyChron 3 system from AIM. But, I don't think he has it up and running yet.
Lohmeyer (Gen 5.1) looks like he will getthe MyChron as well.
Sampognaro (Gen 5.2 EFI)will use the Pectel ECU for data logging, along with their software.
Unfortunately, it looks like we won't have any of the systems recording any data until next season.
