Probably the right place for this..
basically I have bought a new RWB NC30 and I want to trace the prev owner.
I bought it from Jonnyvfr's mate, Gary, in Hartlepool. It was not running due to an electrcal issue which I have now sorted out.

Thought people might know of this bike and may give me some info about it. It was sitting for 4 months wih Gary and for sometime before that with the prev owner, from Yorkshire, and this is who I am looking to speak too.

The pulse generator wire was *possibly* snipped/snapped at the bundle by the rear light connector and so no spark.

Once I fired it up it sounded OK but then with a sniff of revs it became apparent that the motor was not healthy. It fires on 3 and clatters in a huge way at anyting above 1000 revs. I heard Jack Lead's bike last week - that was nasty..but this is nastier! rised with revs - sounds like one of the cam lobes has a flat edge and it is whack whack whacking something in there. I have a spare motor that I wil fit so not overly bothered about this right now....

But - The prv owner apparently serviced it before he went away on some holiday, came back and it did not run so it was stuck in the shed, then sold to Gary who had it 4 months and did not manage to make it run. The conspiracy theory in me says the pulse generator wire was snipped so that it could be sold as electrical, rather than a tractor sounding dead motor.

Other that this - it is in top nick, better than my current bike.lol

err..ramble over..but I hope you get the point! Any one who recognises an NC with Gxxx XTC for reg let me know!

Sounds like the shell bearings have gone. Stick the spare engine in and don't run it again until its fixed as the top ends and other bits are probably still ok in the knackered engine. Have fun with the engine swap, 6 hours of your life wasted.

it sounds very top endy and front bank though. nothing like Oz's bike sounds.

I am arranging a garage for it and should be around with it tonight and begin the stripdown. Saying that, I still need to collect my spare engine from mates house and put the heads back onto it..fun fun fun.

It will be OK I reckon...6hrs in Tim time..more like 10 hrs of Mark time..lol

With one hand tied behind his back and his eyes closed and after 5 martinis and no sleep in eight days! LOL
Of course if I were "helping" it would take 23 hours.

I don't envy you Mark for the engine swap. I'm re-framing my track bike shortly (might do it this weekend) and I really can't be arsed. A few mates round and the kettle on the boil ant it'll be done in no time

Yeah..going to need loads of tea, loads of those Irish Diggy Jiggies (plain choco for me I think) and even some beer for the celebration when it roars into life after the surgery.

I will strip it to bare bones tonight, then have the replacement motor brought over and introduced and leave them alone for the night. football on weds means engine out and new one in for thurs/friday and hopefully some tidying up of the wiring etc before all systems go for the weekend.

bring it on....sort of!!

Diggy jiggys are already stocked up, lunch (and possibly dinner, depending on how long we're at it (building the bike that is)). I'm off on Friday but out with work on Friday night so I'll get started then.

Royst, I'm gonna need the swing-arm removal thing and my BIG ratchet set too. So are you confirmed for the weekend then? (just waiting on a reply from Stu and I'll give Chris a shout about wiring in the Acewell too)

And remember its possible to swap engines without displacing any of the hard earned dirt encrusted onto if you're really carefull!

Mmm, that's a bit suspect. Cuts are very clean. Previous owners g/f take a hissy-fit???

yep - too clean mate..

exactly the same cuts as on the pulse generator wiring too. I was lucky I had already swapped CDI from no9 to see if that was the cause...

oh well - it gets taken to the garage tonight and the stripdown begins.

What a *Censored*, no wonder we couldn't get it going, i was blaming the plugs , thought coils where aright cos the supressor caps all give you electric shocks(crude way of testing but works lol)

at least you have all the bits to get it going i guess, hope the engine transplant goes smoothly.

well..another update.

My spare engine has got a snapped camshaft (sucky)...so I have been fiddling with the engine in this bike to make it work.

The no4 cyl was not firing and so checking the clearances shows me to have zero gap between rocker and shim on the inlet side..... The shim is a 2.18 and a 2.15 so this is stupidly tight... cannot get sod all in there at all so suspect this is the reason the engine sounds nasty and this cylinder does not work.

Exhaust is 0.15 and 0.13 so very very tight too..

am collecting some skinny shims at dinner time but wanted to confirm that clearance this tight is likely to be causing poor compression and hence no firing in this cylinder?

Overall, all the clearances are too tight (0.10 avg inlet and 0.21 or so avg exhaust.

lol - just found this, not quite got the thread writing skills of Craig.. :-D

the bike has now got a spare engine installed with the clearances all sorted. I fired it up and it ran on 4 for a bit and sounded sweet. Left it to warm up and gave it a few blips..all good. was happy, drank beer..

Nxt time it made a bit of a ticking nose and dropped to a triple. it will fire and idle smoothly but just about fails to fire on the front right hand cylinder (strangely the same as in the other engine that was knackered) Carbs might not be installed super tightly..need to check

Have ran out of time and patience to strip the bloody thing again but I will and am going to swap in a whole fresh head.

The only common part beween the two engines is the cam from the broken one to replace the snapped cam in this one..stranger than fiction!

so..bored of bike building and well pi$$ed off with it... I will let you know when it does work...because the fooker will work or I will nuke it. (or flog it on here for £500 and let some sod fix it with a magic hammer tap...)

ramble ramble...lol..

NC's rule
