hi everyone im looking at putting something that looks similar to say an R1 rear end on my bike you know, makes the bike look jacked up. i was wondering if anyone has any info about models that are the easiest to use the back end off. ny help would be appreciated especially if theres someone here who has done this sort of mod.

I did a '98 r1 closed seat race tail on an nc29
Lop off the end of the subframe cut the seat area around the tank and fix on somehow then tweek till your happy
Looks kaky and massive on anything other that a well abused track bike though but is relitively easy
I also attempted a 2005 r1 rear end and body conversion - that is still awaiting completion.....due to finish about the year 2020..

why don't you just get a t.y.g.a one? They are designed for the job.

Maybe the cbr00rr rear end? i'm doing the complete conversion. in germany it's a lot easier to use original parts from other bikes than such aftermarketparts as t.y.g.a. has do to with our police and mot... |

kool i live in the channel islands where mot's dont exist (wuhoo!) so thats not too much of a problem. i like the look of the R1 rear end with the similar brake light to the t.y.g.a any foreseeable problems? mechanically and aesthetically? |

Well the R1 rear end doesn't fit the NC29 for starters. Not even close. Been there tried that. By the time you have cut, glued, recut, glued, filled etc, you will need to take a new mold due to all the extra weight so what is the point, just order the T.Y.G.A part and be done with it. Note the 05 R1 rear end has only be attempted and not completed, that might give you a clue as to the work involved. Anyone can plonk a seat cowling on a subframe and take long shot. However look close and see the mounting points, where it hugs the frame and the tank. How about the saggy undertray? You will need to change that too because it is way too low for any bum in the air seat cowling. What about making the light mount in the seat cowling? Also if you look at the picture from this angle it looks ok, however, the seat cowling is way too low in relation to the tank height and would look pretty ugly side on.
There is a lot more to this kind of conversion than meets the eye. To get a good factory look is very difficult and best left to the experts unless you really want the challenge and have the skills and time available to do this. There certainly won't be any cost saving if you even paid yourself a dollar an hour! FYI, T.Y.G.A are based in Thailand, not USA but have a distributor in the UK. Just do a search on Google and it will come up. Oh yeah and their part has a carbon front section and carbon part to the undertray so I really can't see why you wouldn't go this route. Each unto their own I suppose... |
